My apologies if a similar question has already been posted, I was unable to find any while searching.
It's been hovering in the 30's for the past couple weeks, but yesterday we got our first big snow storm of the season. My car is kept in covered parking over night. This afternoon when I tried to turn it on the engine turned over a few times (this has been happening since it's been cold, but normally catches after about 2 seconds) but then started making a rapid clicking sound, like machine gun fire. I tried for a few minutes but just can't get it to start.
What is the most likely cause of this? Is it a quick fix?
Edit-Of course when I post this I get a link to related threads, sorry about that. I don't see that anyone else's engine sounds like a machine gun though.

Could it be the battery if all the internal lights/radio still work? The battery light does flicker on/off while its trying to start, but I can't remember if it always does that or not.

I had a friend come over with some jumper cables, and despite the problem sounding awful and like nothing related to the battery, you were right...it started right up Now to figure out how the hell you're supposed to get that battery out of there...
