I have a grinding noise, coming from the rear of my car when i downshift into 2nd. But if i baby it in it doesnt wamke the sound. And ONLY when downshifting. What is causing this?

 

2nd gear synchros are supposedly a weak point on these transmissions.

 

does that mean i need my tranny rebuilt?

 

no, it means u needa learn how to heel-toe better...

 

this ushally only happens when it is cold out and you think you are in gear pull it down all the way I have caught myself doing this a few times in the cold mornings

 

you better stop and baby it now or you will end up without second like me. blew the teeth right of the gear.

 

anyone have problem with upshifting from 2nd to 3rd? I cant pinepoint when I will grind. One day I have purposely make sure I step well into the clutch on every shift, and still grind. It doesnt grind all the time....and thats the problem. any suggestions what I should do?

some peeps from azaudi said its my 2nd to 3rd synchro. I told my dealer but since they cant' reproduce that problem they wont fix or replace it.

 

Synchro bad. About 80 dollars to replace labor is 1500 probably. I have a bad syncro in 1st. But only grinds if i try to take off fast. Ease in 2nd gear give ur clutch time to get into place and catch the gear

 

yea i figured it out but i just learned to heel and toe downshift so it doesnt matter anymore.

 

$1500 labor and $80 parts.....no wonder why the dealer wont fix the problem. They are telling me the knew the problem exist on other cars.....Since they drove my car and cannot reproduce the problem, they cant fix it.

SOB, WTF.

Anybody complains to the Audi corporate before? I have some other problems with that dealership also.
