Default GURGLING type sound from exhaust?

Hi guys, I posted before about a rasping gurgling sound whenever I shut off my car but now I have more details.

Car details:
98.5 A4 2.8 - 5 SP

Whenever I start up the car there will be a puddle of water from the tailpipe with a little bit of white smoke when I start it up which goes away pretty quickly. Now, the problem is whenever I shut it off I hear some gurgling sound, sort of like raspy gurgly gasping or expelling of air from the tailpipe, can't be much more specific because I have to turn the car off myself.

I know a lotta guys here who know their stuff, so any help would be very appreciated

Thanks

something I should note, I have had the car stored since April........

I start the car regularly, and this sound has happened more been ocurring somewhat recently.

I know sitting gas can turn bad... it has been 5 months but I do start the car pretty regularly and let it run for a while, rev it up a bit, etc.

Ok it could be:

1.) U have a sick exhaust

2.) Head gaskets are gone (white vapour from tailpipe) - this would also mean that the car is getting harder to start

3.) Fuel has gone off and mite have absorded some water

You could categorize it as a fluttering type of sound.. like a long shallow burp

1) what do you mean by sick exhaust?

2) White vapour only right at startup which is light and goes away pretty fast

3) You think bad feul could cause this?

Thanks for the input so far doctors [X(]

I was joking bout the sick exhaust, meaning its one of those 'rice' tailpipes[sm=joke.gif]

The white vapour is some sort of condensation, whether its from u car burning coolant which will have a very distintive smell or from the fuel goin a bit stale

Mite be time to get a VAGCom check for codes?

when you drive the car is it for short distances only?
Because if so, shutting the car off right after it warms up can take a toll on your exhaust

Sounds like a lot of water and condensation in the muffler from the car sitting, being started and not being driven a long distance. The moisture in the exhaust has condensed in the muffler and there is a big pool of water. I'd suggest a nice road trip with fresh gas. That should solve the problem
