Hello from Australia! looking at a A4
Hi I currently own a Nissan 180sx with 240 rwkw which im converting from street to drift so im looking for a new daily driver, im looking at a 2000 A4 1.8 Turbo, these are pretty cheap here in Australia between 20-26 thousand AUD and i have a few questions;
How much power can the internals handle?
how much boost is there stock?
what max boost can the stock turbo hold?
how much power can the gear box take?
and finally from your guys expereince what would be the first list of basic mods, im guessinig the usual bolt on's like pod filter, exhaust, bov, boost controller, FMIC
Cheers!

Hello there, welcome to the forums.
I don't know too much about turbos, but here goes:
The 1.8T has a ton of mod-ability. If you get an upgraded ECU and diverter valve, you'll be pushing about 250 HP without any additional modifications needed. A chip will cost something like $400-$500 US, and it's worth every penny.
Stock boost is something like 10-12 psi, but I could be wrong.
An intake for your engine won't really do much, it may actually do you harm by sucking in hot air. There is a sticky link at the top of this page about Stock Airbox Modifications, check it out.
FMIC and boost guage would be good ideas, an exhaust would be hot as well.
Do NOT get a blow-off valve, they are not the same as diverter valves. Audi turbo systems are closed-loop systems...long story short, if you're expelling air out of the system, your ECU is going to think your air/fuel ratio is off and compensate by adding more fuel. You'll run rich, foul the Cat coverter and a whole host of other long-term problems.
Lastly, if you want any additional info on any of these questions, most of them have been discussed in-depth previously (the BOV in particular!
). The search function is your best friend: https://www.audiforums.com/search.asp
Cheers mate!

The stock turbo boost is 7-9 PSDI max. With a chip, you will be running 17-20 PSI.
With just a chip, you will have anywhere form 200 to 215 HP at the crank and around 245 torque.
A borla exaust system will boost you a good 15 HP, and a cold air intake, like said above, wouldnt do much good.
Those are just basics for starting modding your car. After that, if you decide to get a new turbo, it opens a whole new range of insain-ability for your car.
Have fun, and enjoy that German Engineering!!

how you going. im in sydney at the moment and have been looking into it a bit. The nearest APR dealer in Sydney is at Mona Vale. Guy Harding can give you the details.Give him a call on 1300 730 949
Hey man. Give us an update on your ride. I'm in Perth atm and there is $%^& all for mods and stuff here. Cheaper to get them from the US. How much did you pay for your B5? I've got a B6 as a day driver. Buying a B5 for the track and weekends.
