1996.1.8T. A4. I can see a continious flashing light best described as;
circle with cross in it and a small icon, either side of circle is what could be described as brake shoes? Or imagine (0) such as that?

sounds like a bulb is out the (O) is for break pads/fluid level and it doesn't flash so I would go for a failed rear break light

 

It has something to do with brakes there are 3 differnt lights. Open up your owners manual.

 

your pads might be getting low. its a brake warning light

 

yep. Check the pads for wear.

 

( 0 ) that's not a circle with a cross an it but a bulb out would be similar?

 

Dave, thanks for that. It seems that on firing up the car if you give the brake pedal a prod it cancels the warning light. I hope this is normal reaction/

 

Sorry folks I should have said that I did not get a handbook with this car otherwise I could have figured it out for myself.

 

I believe that the X is for burned out bulb. Check the rear brake lights. Sorry I can't be more help as I'm traveling and don't have access to my books.

 

Take a pic of it next time it shows up and post it. But my guess is a bulb.
