Help me ObAUDIwan, Oil Pan ?
Typical Monday....... I took off the "skid" plate off my A4 wagon (1998, 2.8 liter, quatro) for a oil change ..... the wife took the car to pick up kids before I replaced the plate. Long story short..... she drove over a Mega speed bump... (almost a raised crosswalk) and bottomed out, putting two holes in the lower oil pan. [:@]
I removed the old pan and have a new pan (and gasket). I'm wondering...... do I need to apply a gasket sealer to the new gasket?? Does it go on dry?
Can anyone with a shop manual tell me what to torque the bolts to?
Thanks for any advice..
Marc

Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic nor have I ever done this. Copied from book only for 30V engine. These are the instructions for the lower oil pan part, which I assume is the only one removed.
Install new gasket on oil pan (lower part) and attach to oil pan (upper part) with two bolts diagonal to each other.
- Tighten all bolts hand tight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17-18
- Starting in center and moving toward outside, tighten bolts to 10 Nm (7 ft lb).
- Install new seal on oil drain plug and tighten to 30 Nm (22 ft lb).

Marchitect, i learnt that myu car has a low ground clearance similarly in the hard fashion. With no mechanical skills what so ever, i had to take it to the nearest audi dealership to fix it. They charged me a whopping $425.00 (parts and labor) to replace the oil pan.
