A small port is fine up to 400whp. I would rather have a wbo2 control my a/f than a nbo2 any day. Plus stock blocks are fine for 300whp also. Guess i rather have better tuning abilities and you rather have greater flow abilities
only cuz i plan on makin at least 400whp and tuning options out there like Tapp and Uni have nearly perfected their software so tuning isn't such an issue anymore. and i could always go sem

lol AEB and AWM are engine codes.

from my newbie guide

throughout the years the 1.8T engines have had different codes. 97-99.5 are AEB, 2000 are ATW, and 2001 are AWM. AEB engines are the best to work on and mod and have more aftermarket. They also have the largest port head and the biggest wrist pins (20mm) so they produce the most power. They use the 058 block w/ external water pump, no MAP sensor, and nbo2. ATW use the 058 block w/ external waterpump, MAP sensor, smaller port head, 20mm wrist pins, and nbo2. It has the AEB bottom end, with a smaller head. AWM is the same as the 02+ AMB engine with 06A block, internal waterpump, MAP sensor, 19mm wrist pins, and wbo2.

and dbc is drive by cable, same thing as nDBW, but cincy gets mad if you call it that[8D]

To the op If I were you I would get speed tuning 170 plus shipping. Full borla exhaust with test pipe 700 ish. Then maybe tint or if you have a hook up some wheels.

Butkeep in mind that a tune with a wbo2 is more powerful and you can monitor a/f with a vagcom among other things. Plus you can use a wonderful thing called unisettings to increase/decrease timing/fuel. Honestly a best setup would be a wbo2 ecu and AEB head. Thats why i would rather have the AWM and then spend another $400 for a use AEB head when the time is needed for a big port head. Not to mention IE rods are fine for the power levels or you can get AEB pistons for ~$200 so you can go with scats.

So when you guys say custom exhaust for $500...what exactly are you suggesting. Getting two borla mufflers and resinators and having my local muffler shop pipe the rest and bolt on the test pipe? I can't stress this enough that I really don't want to exhaust to be very loud....

Does it all have to be mandrel bent?
