Check your oil level the get expert help as soon as possible. Possible causes are;
Engine mountings.
Cracked exhaust manifold,
Dry camshaft bearings,
Main bearing failure,
Piston slap,
Slipped cam belt.
Camshaft adjuster bearing.
Water pump bearing,
Broken alternator retaining bracket.
In fact with so little information it could be many things. Is it a regular sound or does it increase with revolution of the engine? High or low pitched noise? Metallic sound?

thanks for all the solutions. sorry for the lack of info. The knocking/clicking noise 90% is on start up only then within 10-15 sec the noise stops. but the other 10% of the time. which is rare. its when i run the car hard cause im late...
Id say an oil blockage/sludge. I had a ticking noise when I first bought my 98.8 Audi A4 1.8TQ Tip. Id get an oil flush, or you can get some products that clean out your oil system at (insert favorite auto parts store here). Make sure that if you decided to do a DIY flush (like Seafoam)that it is safe for turbocharged engines. The ticking you hear is your hydralic lifters starving for oil. You could always do it the right way and drop your pan, clean the sludge and your oil pickup screen. Or you can do the30 minute DIY flush, basically youll just want to do an oil change (dont change the filter yet) with some dino(non-synthetic) oil then pour some flush (i.e. Seafoam), let it sit idle for about 15 minutes, rev it a little to get things moving (dont go above 3000rpms and dont drive it at all, your oil will be very thin at this point), shut off and perform and oil change with SYNTHETIC oil (prevents sludge and cleans your engine, i recommended some Mobil 1) and change your filter. After that your hydralic lifters should shutup and you will lose that 'ticking' sound you hear. I also found that if you top off your oil with some SLICK50 Engine treatment (I used the high milage formulation) it keeps those lifters quiet for good.
Just like what is stated above....
first things on your list should be....seafoam current oil/fuel/vac system (there's a good DIY around here)
then change your oil, you must go with a full synthetic...if it's cold where you are go for 0w-40 if it's warm go w 10w-40....change your oil filter out w the oil filter for a 2.8 (it's bigger/better)....change your air filter and think about having your fuel filter replaced as well....oh and it's prolly time to change your spark plugs...your should go for a set of NGK BKR6E's....they cost 2$ a piece and should be replaced every 5k or so, I change mine every oil change....(the things listed above will also improve your mpg!)
sounds like you may be developing a bit of sludge, seafoam is probably your best option for preventing "mad sludge"....
change your oil/filter every 2.5-3k!
gl!
