Hesitant start then....

Hesitant start then....
2001 A4 1.8T Automatic 45K miles
Hesitates but does start - last time the radio went into SAFE mode and heater turned on at a high temperature.
When driving the stereo display occasionally cuts out. Voltometer seems normal.
Thoughts on what is causing this?
