Hey all got ?'s
Hello all, i signed up to the forum because this is usually where you can find some honest feedback and such on cars without too much bias. I was wondering if some of the more mature users could help me out, who have maybe owned an audi a4 for sometime or have a considerable amount of knowledge.
My first question is:
Which a4 model should i be shopping for if im gearing towards the sportier range? i drive a honda (i can hear the scoff's now) and im quite used to a bumpy and loud ride (no lawn mower pipes, just lack of sound deadening materials, so comfort/luxury isnt a major concern). im looking to spend up to $7,500-8,000 on a used a4.
Should i consider another audi line for the same price range?
On a rather limited budget, would i be able to get by for car matenince without having to sell organs?
What type or gas mileage am i looking at? is 17-24 a good estimate? the civic running 14.9 1/4 gets 25/30, thats quite a difference.
Am i better off shopping for a different car considering my price range?
Thanks for all the help in advance fella's

Hey Rhawn, welcome to the forums.
If I were you I would be looking for a 1.8t A4 built around 97-99. Make sure the timing belt/water pump has been changed around 60k miles as this is a major audi problem. The 1.8t has a large modding scene, whereas the 2.8 does not( sans a $5000 supercharger).

The car will be my project car for the next 7 years or so, or until i decide to upgrade. i need something reliable ( i will maintain it very well as we do with all of our cars.) because it needs to get me through the next 7 years of dental school and college (the reason my funds are limited!)
How bad will modding the vehicle effect gas mileage?? does it come "de-tuned" for reliability or for creature comforts ?

Yeah audi turbo cars are very untuned from the factory. $500 chip and you gain ~50 hp. Chipping does not decrease fuel mileage, but the driver tends to punch it more often.
Audi maintenance is going to be higher than your civic by a lot. You'll probably want to keep 1000 bucks in reserve just in case.

Welcome! As others said I would go for a 97-99.5 1.8t, quattro, 5 spd with around 50-70k mi if possible. And out of those i prefer the 99.5 because it has the old drive by cable motor with the newer body style (1 piece headlights, better tailights, clear side markers). Also if you plan on modding I probably wouldnt spend the extra on the sport package (not sure how much that effects the price anyways.) I got a best of 34mpg with my chip, 32 with my k04, and now 26 with the gt28rs. All those numbers are cruise control on the highway around 70 mph
What kind of honda are you coming from and what mods?
