Hey, just a got a 2002 A4 1.8TQM, and I have a few problems! Help please!
Alright, wellI finally got a B6 Audi A4....
. Its a 2002 A4 1.8TQ, 5spd. The car has 86800 miles. It runs great and all but i have a CEL and a few other problems, so I am hoping you guys can help me out!
1. My heater does not work. It will only blow out fairly warm air. I am betting that my thermostat is sticking open because my temperature gauge will stay on COLD during a whole drive. BUT, if you let the car idle (since no air is passing through radiator) it will heat right up to the middle and stay right there. Anyways, do you guys think that it might be a stuck thermostat or my coolant sensor that is malfunctioning (because at startup my fans are turning like crazy)? Could it be both? Also, anybody have a write-up for changing a thermostat (or where is is located) for a B6 1.8TQ?
2. When should I change my timing belt at? Everywhere on the internet says a B6 should change at 90,000 mls but the owner manual says 105,000? Who do I believe? Also what are some average prices on a timing belt change from an independent shop? (I am still debating if I want to take on the liability of changing it myslef).
That should be it for now. Thanks again!

timing belt is 100k but it is always good to change it earlier. I think your right on the money with the stuck open therm. If you want i could email you the procedure for that
How safe do you think it is to run it until 100K? The timing belt is one of those items you cant bargain with, lol.
If you have procedures that would be awesome! Email me at absolutegtr@aol.com
Also, where should I get the thermostat from? I would like to stick with OEM, but isnt that around $120 (the thermostat is attached to the housing andyou buy both, right?) What other places/sites are very reputable to my a thermostat from...I dont want to have to change it twice!
Thanks

Bad news man the site to get all that info is down. I can send you what I have 4now but it is kinda vagueI dont know about running it to 100k.like you said that something you dont mess with. I just did mine and I have 60 k on it but i also have some stuff done. As far as where to get the stuff I always go with the dealer stuff. its more expensive but you know what you are getting is good. Some people would tell you different
Anybody know for a write-up a timing belt change for a B6 1.8T? I already found the thermostat write up, and it seems pretty easy, so yes, I have tried searching, lol.
Alright, Well I decided that i am going to tackle the timing belt project myself. I have to change the thermostat, therefore draining the coolant so I might as well do it all right now and get it over with, right? Hell, I am almost at 90K.
So, just to make surehere is the list of parts I need to fully complete a timing belt job: (please add if I missed some):
Obviously I want every part to be OEM, so if there is a kit I can buy that includes everything let me know!
Timing Belt
Auto-tensioner
Waterpump
Thermostat
I am sure that cant be everything, so please let me know!

Since Audis use interference engine designs you should change it now. I bet Audiworld has a write up...

Shouldn't be a whole lot different on your B6.

Before you change the thermo stat, get some one to check the temp of the engine, as it may be the gauge. I had the same issue with a 97 Quattro. Got my mate who had one of those laser temp senors. While the guage read below C, the engine temp was actually normal, sympton could be the sender unit.
