lbyron, that cant be the problem since my heater blows out only warmish air. Plus like I said, if I am at idle (for like 10-15 minutes) the car will warm right up to operating temp (plus we are having like 30 degree F now).
Oh, and thanks wood-e

I see that ecstuning sells OE parts not OEM. Is it just as good?
Also, what do you all think of putting in a APR snub mount?
Last question, when I change my thermostat, i must get the whole housing, correct?
THANKS!

Code is P1296 (if I remember correctly - pulled it up in school about 3 days ago)
It was either P1296 or P01296. It means DTC in cooling system.
My teacher (I take Auto tech classes) said that my thermostat is sticking open...which make sense because my car doesnt heat up at all unless I am at idle (because there is no air going across the radiator).

P1296 is either thermostat or coolant sensor. I go with the thermostat.
You might as well do the whole front end. As said above ECS sells a nice kit that includes everything including coolant, accessory belts, water pump, tensioner, etc,
Also you might want to do the front cam seals at the same time as you are in there.
If you know what you are doing, it is a DIY, but if you make a mistake you can trash your engine.
Personally, I had my garage (which has experience with Audis) do both of my timing belt changes. I'd rather pay them the 400 dollars than take the chance of screwing up. Even they had a few minor problems (forgot to reconnect my AC sensor wire, and had a loose connection to the headlight washers causing a leak. They took car of those minor issues.

I found a nice OEM timing belt kit (everything minus thermostat) on www.purems.com for even cheaper than ecstuning.com. Has anyone dealt with purems.com before? Any reviews?
Also, I must buy the whole thermostat housing, right? And, what kind of coolant and how much do I use?

Thanks dave and everyone else for all your help. I went ahead and bought the FULL timing kit from www.purems.com.I also bought the APR snub mount.
As for the thermostat, (not to question your answer-dave9999) but on audiworld.com they said that for a B6 you must get the housing, total cost is like $100 for thermostat and housing.
