worn mounts will rob you of power, especially on take-offs. replacing your tranny mounts (get some allroad mounts from impex and use them, they're stronger than the stock mounts....your snub mount may also need replacing...definitely use 91+ gasoline...custom exhuast is your best route, alot of guys convert their 2.8s to a single-cat setup when getting a custom exhaust.

Dont get me wrong about the 12V comment, I'm just sayin, for the price of an exhaust and all the other business you could add to a 12V, you could sell it, buy a 1.8T, chip it, and have more power...

If I owned a 12V, I'd just do tonnes of suspension mods, everything possible, and upgrade the mounts, and make car that could handle like crazy! I think that'd be money better spent, since a 12V will never be terribly fast (we used to own one though, and I loved it -- they are great, smooth, quiet etc -- but the 1.8T is MUCH quicker once chipped)

www.audi.offtone.com for the 12V we got rid of.

ya the allroad tranny mounts are nice addition. another expensive mod but worh it

headshok2002...i know what you are saying... it is true that to mod 12v is kinda useless. it just gets annoying that each time someone buys one (96-97 a4 2.8) and the post where to find mods some one always says sell it and get a 1.8t.

i think a custom exhaust and intake are legitimate mods for the 12V...you can probably get 10-15HP from the right exhaust/intake combo.

hb, the allroad mounts aren't that expensive, are they? i thought they were something like 90 bucks for the pair...i don't know about installation, but i've heard it's not very difficult...was i misinformed?

I dont suggest he sell his car and buy a 1.8T... unless he wants a car to make fast... in which case, buy the 1.8T. If I was gonna keep a 12V (for the many good reasons to have a 12V: reliability, smoothess, so quiet etc!) I'd do what I said before... and make it handle like a ****! Nothing stopping a 12V from handling any worse than a 1.8T... cept for a bit of weight difference, but still, coil overs, front and rear sway bars, poly bushings, and that car would own at the auto-x!

But for me... spending like 600+ to get 15 hp... I dunno. I guess exhaust will get you a nice sound as well, so it is justifiable... but after the free intake, and the exhaust... no point in going for more power. Making it handle though! MMM, we get busted for speeding anyhow... might as well make the car corner on rails.

the alroad mounts are $70 each and you need two so $140 is a bit expensive. but i also replaced my clutch and tranny at the same time so the extra $140 wasn't to much more

How much of a diff did the allroad mounts make? I'm semi interested in doing them when I do my coil overs.
