Default hi guys...new here. a leaky question???

i own a 99.5 A4 2.8 with 76K. i just replaced the valve cover gaskets this weekend along with the breather hose (mine was taped in 3 places). everything went pretty smooth ( thanks to your DIY forum) and now my car smells and drips worse than before. i did read about some guys using rtv sealant but my gaskets didnt have any on them when i took them off so i didnt put any on the new gaskets. could this be causing them toleak worse than my old gaskets?? any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks in advance guys.

Quite possible that the new gasket on sharp bends mises in a few spots. Check the VC gaskests for leaking.

I would have to agree....you probably just need to pull of the VC and re-set the gasket

it's never a bad idea, just make sure to use one that's oil and fuel resistant.

i dug back into the VCG and found that a piece of heat shealding on the passenger side got sandwiched in there when i put the vavle covers back on. OOPS. anyway i think that was the problem.

Monitor it for a few days, but that might've been the issue.
