HID's or not?
I have a burnt out headlight and was wonderign what kind of bulb i will need. my friend says HID's are like 200 a piece wich would suck. I have a 2001 a4 1.8t sports addition, how do i tell if it has HID's? if not what kind of bulb do i need?
ok here's the deal. odds are you dont have them. i have the same car and i dont have them either. if you go buy bulbs, then you will spend like $30 for H7's but you will still be stuck with crappy lighting. if you go to visionbulbs they have a special on kits $200 shipped for everything you need which is pretty much unheard of. the way you can tell if you have jid's or not is if there is a short burn in time when you turn on your lights. like do they flash bright and then gradually get brighter and bluish in color? or do they just go right on? i doubt you have them but you should put your $30 for new H7's towards a HID kit 8000K to be exact. nice and bright nice and blue...
Agreed with chuckievi - 4300k is the most effective rating for visibility (it's the closest to natural daylight as far as the available color temps for HIDs go). I have had 4300k and 5000k in other cars, and the HIDs in my 2.8Q are 6000k. They're still worlds better than OEM halogen, but I can tell a difference between them and the 4300k kit I had in my Z. The 4300k is the ultimate for visibility. The higher you go in the color temperature, the more blue the light will be, but also the intensity (in lumens) will be diminished. If I remember right, the 4300k kit had luminosity of 3300 lumens, the 5000k was 3250, and the 6000s are around 3100. Still worlds better than the 750 lumens of halogens, but you can see the trend. The higher kelvin ratings may look really cool in the blue and purple colors, but their output is less than that of the lower-K kits.
