HOLY STEALERSHIP!

HOLY STEALERSHIP!
Wow.. Just got off the phone with Audi, inquiring about a price for a valve cover gasket from them.. The dude said "a low price of $47.50"..... I just laughed, then he laughed, then I said "thanks anyway", he said, "yeah thats what i thought." Thats insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can get the gasket for $25 shipped, and take about a half hour or so to install it myself.. Where the total cost for the dealership would be about $120!!!!!!!!!! Hence the term: "Stealership" I'm still a little shocked, I think I'll go breathe into a paper bag so i dont start hyperventalating.

What specialty tools are you talking about? A torque wrench? Impact gun?

have you every work as a tech at a dealer and then at an independent shop? The dealership has specialty tools to make not only engine work easier but transmission work as well. Also tools for diag electrical, evap, and driveability issues. These tools are super exspensive making them harder to get for independent dealers. That and car makers make things even more difficult and wont offer most of them to anyone BUT dealers. Thus cutting the independant shops out of the mix and keeping dealerships alive. Its a $hitty thing but its the only thing keeping the dealerships alive. If my independant shop that I go to had these specialty tools then Id be able to get my radio code from them and as well as NEVER see the dealership. They are VERY capable techs and I have talked to them, but they are starved the tools they need to go fully independant.
