I dont doubt that the EGTs will change rapidly. My question is how quickly that will affect the temp of the metalic turbo.

I know that experience is as good as theory when it comes to engineering. But I assume, Mike, that your experience with the k03 is accumulated 1/4 miles at a time? Wouldnt longer boosting periods create more residual heat and lessen the cooling rate of the turbo by the EG?

But more back to the point. Would you say that if your turbo is visibly glowing bright red hot (or "turning transparent") that it is too hot to turn off the car?

My experiance with the K03 wasn't just at the drag strip, just in the first 12 months that I had the car I put 45k miles on it and some of that time was pushing the K03 at 26psi on the street.

No matter if you push the turbo for 15 seconds or for 1 minute the EGT's are always going to be the same and the metal temps are not going to be any different.

i dont see how the EGTs and turbo are the at the same temperature all of the time unless the heat transfer is perfect which it is not. but perhaps the heat transfer is very efficient.

also it would seem that if you run your turbo hard for 1 second it will cool down quicker then if you run it hard for 1 hour

the best way to resolve the question is with a hightemp thermocouple on the turbo

would a high flow exhaust help to keep the turbo cooler?

I have heard that a clogged cat will make the turbo really hot, so it reasons that a high flow turbo back exhuast will keep it cooler than stock. I imagine with a custom 26 psi tune that you car had upgraded exhaust.

actually . over the weekend i un-clogged the cat. seems to run ALOT better. i can hear the turbo spool up quickly, power seems to come on very quick now. everything is stock except a k&n filter. It dosent seem to glow as red anymore.. which is always good. It does get hot, but only when im on it.

Yes because a high flowing exhaust, high flow cat or test pipe will reduce the back pressure behind the turbo.

Yes I had a 2.5" test pipe, stock down pipe and a 2.5" exhaust from the down pipe back.
