Default How can I tell if all 4 brakes are working?

When I drive my 2003 A4 1.8T (Manual of course), I feel like only the rear brakes are working. Also, there's never any brake dust on my front wheels, the rear wheels are always dirtier. When you wash the wheels, after you've driven, you know how the rotor is yellowish? Well. only the rear two are yellowish when they're wet, the front rotors aren't. Let me know what you guys think and feel free to tell me if I have no idea what I'm talking about (pretty much). Thanks in advance for your time.

you could always jack the entire car off the ground and put it in gear and see if the brakes stop the front wheels

Does your car brake normally?. Are there any brake fluid leaks up front. Hmm...if it was just your rear brakes that work then there would be a tendency for the back end to slide, kinda like oversteer just worse. Usually theres noticeable break dust only up front...maybe you got on diff pads that emit less or more brake residue. If you brake normally then forget about it.

When you lift the car, don't forget to lay down under it.

Find a hill where no one else is around and start going down then apply the brakes (not lightly but not too hard), if the rear end slides then your front brakes are not working.

also, a much simpler test drive around pretty good and then get out and just put your hands next to the wheels, you should feel quite a bit more heat coming off the front brakes than the back.

find a gravel road and lock em up. (dont need to be going fast...)

Then look at the skid marks and see which wheels locked up.

Now I know this is way to logical, but why dont you just have someone step on the dang brakes and look and see if the calipers clamp up?
