RE: how to disconnect abs?
the beeps would be the headache but if you are instant on doing it then the easiest way is to fit a switch across the ABS fuse ( when the ABS light is on the system is off ) caution though it could effect your insurance if you had a smash and they found that switch

yup.....first thing I think when I'M driving around in the snow is "Geez, this car would handle a LOT better without ABS."

If you get a second I would LOVE to hear your explaination of your opinion here........

RE: how to disconnect abs?
I can only supply UK answer here because the ABS is part of the MOT ( yearly test certificate VOSA ) and the insurance company ask if it has ABS so I would say here in the UK at least the system cant be tampered with and has to be working for the car to to comply with regulations so if the car was in a crash the insurance will do its best not to pay out ( especially if some one was killed ) if you get my drift

i´m new to this forum... but why the hell is everybody trying to tell me that i shoud leave the abs alone??? i mean it´s not like youdisable the brakes of the car or something! if you want it. fine, you go ahead and keep it. me, i dont like it! it is kinda hard to explain why since english is not my main language. but ok,i like to be able to whigle my tail by using the brake before i hit turns. i often go very wide. i gues you coud say i like to rallydrive it.
i live in gällivare sweden wher the roads ar coverd in snow from erly november thro mid may and i have been driving 4wd like a carthief for 10 years now.
the audi is my"second" car.
my hobbycar is a -92 mitsubishi eclipse 4wdwhit 530 bhp whitch i also drive in the winter. (very amusing car!!! no abs)
so why don´t i want the abs? well, picture this. try to drift wide true a 90 degreturn and so happens that you make a mistake and need tobrake.... if you have abs the weels never lock uppand the car pulls towards it´s nose direction and you end upp in the ditch on the inside of the curve.
if you dont have abs and do the same thingyou canlock upp the wheels kompletly and you will slide sidways in the direction of the road. perhaps you spinn but you stay on the road.
another thing.the abs gets it´s info from one wheel that has full contakt whit the road. so what happens if you spinn all 4 wheels much faster then you actualy travel and try to brake? the abs dosent have a f****ngclue what to do or how fast you actualy ar going and rattels like crasy but it dosent brake that very god.
i have done alot of testing whit my older cars on this mather. in some conditions the abs is betterin othersit´s not!
i dont need a mamma to tell me whats best for me. or what a insurancecompany "might" say.
as i said erlier. if you don´t agree whit me you don´t have to! buti dont like the abs in most cases and i still want to knew if therar somebody whoknews how to disconnect it whitout having al of those pesky warninglights in the car.

RE: how to disconnect abs?
its your choice no one is telling you to do anything just giving constructive advice, older cars didn't have the ABS or like the Saab you could switch it off and if that was the case its legal but new cars have it as standard so its an insurance mine field but its your choice and as I said I can only give you advice on UK laws so your country might be totally different
RE: how to disconnect abs?
I know what you mean so here is the fix,
make a wire up with a fuse rated the same as the ABS fuse and fit a switch in the wire now remove the ABS fuse and fit the wire between the fuse connections that way you can switch it on and off and make the wire long enough so you can put the switch where you want

exaktly the same as to remove the fuse then...i´m afraidthis dosent take care of the varninglights... or the beeping.but i guess that if ther ar no better way i have to live whit the varninglights. didnt sombody say that he had fixed the varninglights but not the beeping? how did you fix the lights then?

Disconnect the abs module from the pump, take out the gauge cluster and either remove the bulbs for the abs and brake light or cover them with electrical tape. You can kill the annoying beep but you'll probably have to remove some of the center console to get to it. I never really tried to figure out where its coming from.
