it is going to spill a little bit no matter wat due to the angle that it is at. just be quick once it is fully loose. then wipe clean once the new filter is installed.

Here's why I'm asking. I recently did an oil change and also changed the filter. The area was leaking a bit so I tohought it is probably the filter. Now I think it is the O-ring between the oil cooler and the bracket that holds it to the engine (the filter in now dry but the oil coller is wet with oil). I want to check the nut that holds the oil cooler but with all the oil spilling it's a very messy job. I'm thinking maybe it just needs to be tightened.

only way is to remove the oil filter and tighten the cooler bolt up and if you can save the filter that's a + if not replace the oil and filter for you records
