I keep an anchor in thepassenger seat. Just throw that puppie out when I see a read light ahead.

I did something like that but i hooked up a CO2 tank in the trunk that catapults an anchor from under the car into the street. Maybe ill make a DIY for you guys. (we have tons of pot holes by me)[:-]

 

if ur downshifting do it right, match those rpms.

 

i just use my surroundings to slow down, ie brush up against dividers on the hw, curbs, or occassionally tap larger vehicles

small trees work well too

 

That reminds me of an experience i had as a young teen leaving a party (drunk as a skunk) when my brakes went right to the floor and i drove it 6 miles home and used the curb/grass to stop it in front of my house. The funny thing is my dad seen the car in the grass and thought i came home drunk.

 

I use neutral + brakes. I didn't even know the downshifting way was feasible in most situations. Like if you're coming to a red light in 4th, you guys shift to 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st? Won't that take forever to stop?

 

no, you shift down a gear or two, and when you get too close to downshift anymore, neutral + brakes


ps: you can brake while you downshift, obvi

 

NEVER downshift to 1st....i dunno sometimes i slow down with neutral and the brakes, then sometimes when i fell like driving aggresive i downshift , but it is true either way, you are wearing in your car either neutral and brakes is wearing your brake pads down ,and when you are downshifting you are wearing in your clutch and synchro's ...so either way something is getting worn but the fact of the matter is which one is CHEAPER to replace?????????? obviously the brakes!!!!!! so that is what i do 75 % of the time when im driving then the other 25% i drive aggresively and downshift ......this is a good poll!!!!!!!!!!!!! interested to see what others have to say!!!!
