Default how do you tell the difference, A4-A6?

Howdy! I'm new to the forum and new ti Audi too! My nieghbor has a 1999 Audi station wagon and she wrecked the passenger side rear door on it. I'm trying to help her find one but I know nothing about Audi's! How do you tell the difference, A4-A6 Is this number in reference to how many cylanders? Also, could some one help me locate and decifer the paint code? Looks like a dark blue...
Thanks in advance for any help!

a6 is bigger, fatter and pretty much uglier
the number has no relation to engine size

if you have an a4, and it dosent look like yours then its probably an a6...and there should be badges on the back that tell you what model it is

A6 is a larger model then the A4. They are different cars and the designation refers to the model, not the number of cyl, although the A6 doesn't com with a 4 cyl engine.

Yeah, the A4 and the A6 can be differentiated by the timing on the turbo booster. The A6 runs six pings per second to help the turbo spool up faster, where the A4 runs four pings for a higher top-end boost. They used more pings on the A6 since it's a heavier car and they wanted faster accelleration from it, where the A4 was engineered by Porche so it's a top speed machine.

Ok, funny I guess, but how is this helpful? At least give the real answer at the bottom.

possible ways to find out:

1. badges on rear
2. look in manual
3. look at the title to the vehicle
4. google it
5. take it to an Audi dealer

the a4

the a6
