how low is too low-tranny fluid.
Another part to the never-ending saga of this car. I realized my tranny cooler lines were leaking at the radiator, so i went through the elaborate process of removing them and noticed the o-rings were pinched and deformed. Replaced them with what i thought was the same size from autozone, which resulted in massive amounts of tranny fluid leaking out. I have ordered the correct o-rings from the dealer, and set up an appointment to have the tranny flushed/filled, but i'm wondering if it is safe to drive to the dealer or wether i should have it flatbedded there.
If once the car is back together it actually drives there normally is it presumed i won't be doing any damage to the tranny? I would guess the amount of fluid that has leaked out is somewhere around 2 quarts total.
Thanks,
Ryan

the way to check it is to have the engine and transmission warm (from driving it) and on a level surface. However, warming it up might mean messing up the transmission if it is too low. if you for sure it is down 1 quart, add 1 quart to be safe. If you know for sure it is down 2 quarts, add 2 quarts to be safe before driving it.1 or 2 quarts is soo much cheaper than avoidable transmission work.
thanks for the reply. I ended up just driving it there, all worked well except third gear acted a little goofier than normal (tucking into brain for future referance as an early warning sign trans fluid is low). If it were that easy to add fluid i definately would have, but it isn't all that simple.
All is well now, paid the dealer 350 to flush/change it, and she's buttery smooth!

perhaps. But, i paid them for 7 quarts of fluid and the filter, plus 2 hours of labor. I can definately feel a difference in the transmission now even compared to before i lost transmission fluid. Who knows what really happened, but i'd like to think they actually changed it and didn't just top it off.
Also, do you realize what all has to be done to "add a quart or two"? its not near as simple as pouring in a quart of oil.

i work at a dealer,
and i can tell u that they did all the proper work but it took them 1h not 2, thats guranteed,
Q: do u have to change the filter too when u change the fluid?
and what kind of fluid should i use?
thanks
