Sorry to bring up an older thread, but I have a similar question.

I'm looking at a '99 A4 1.8T and it has 94,637 miles on it. The inside is almost perfect, and the outside does seem perfect. New tires, and a 6 month warranty covering major parts.

$9.9k for it

According to NADA guides and kbb.com, it is more than competitively priced. But will it last to 200k?

I am at 161k right now, burns NO OIL, and turbo still pulls very strong. My A/C pulley is alittle noisy, not worried about it though.

No way to tell for sure. See if you can get the maintainence history of the car. If it looks like it has been taken care of, then there is no reason why it souldn't last to 200k.

I got my Audi 1996 a4 2.8 Quattro for $5000.00 just like 3 days ago.

ORIGINAL: montic

I am looking to by a 1997 Audi A4 2.8 quattro. This one has 120,000 and I can talk him down to 7,500. As you can see everything has been done properly and it has all the service papers to go along with it? Will these cars if taken care of make it to 200,000 miles or more?

1997 A4 Quattro. 2.8L 5spd. Black on Black leather, tinted windows. Thule rack with wind deflector (and 2 negotiable bike attachments). Winter and sport package. Third owner. Nearly ALL highway miles. Timing belt, water pump, etc. done at 70,xxx. In the last 10,000 miles: New clutch, new front rotors and pads all the way around, and heavy duty A4 rubber floor mats (these are sweet for the winter because they are indestructable and easily cleaned). I have ALL the paper work for everything that has been done to this car since the warranty expired. I HATE to sell this car, but I NEED the money for school and travel. PLEASE make me an offer I can't refuse!!
Thanks for reading... (707) 477-2218, Nick

I am test driving it Saturday to make sure its what I want.

Thanks,
Nick

Well the guy seemed honest enough...not slicked back hair and sweating profusely

He said that he had it check out and it looked good, it was maintained well and had synthetic oil used and premium gas in it. Like I said it does come with a 6 month (no milage limit I don't think), so they have to have some confidence.

I know it's really a crap shoot, but coming from Audi folk who I'm sure know more than me and have read/seen more scenarios, do you think I could/should get this and not have to put much money in it for a year or so?
