How much was your most expensive repair?
Hey everyone, I just bought a 2000 A4 1.8T Tip Quattro. It has 183,468 miles. I know that it is super high miles, but thats why I picked it up for less than 5 grand. It has all of the matinace records and just about everything has been replaced. Tie rods, control arms, timing belt, water pump, turbo, everything. The records even go back to mile number 3 when she was bought. My question for you guy is what has been your most expensive repair. I am not talking about upgrades, just repairs. I kinda want to just know what to plan on.
I just re-read that and boy does it sound like I am trying to sell it already, I have never owned a car for more than 9 months.

Well, I've got you beat for overall milage, and I've got a simular story in regards to my vehicle history so I went back through all the receipts the previous owner collected to really start reading through them. I knew of the biggest repair which didn't really concern me too much- a broken timing belt destroyed the top end of the motor. It was over $3000 for the repair, but that was a few years ago (and the milage at the time was 117K). Most of the other charges were for tire and oil changes, new tires, CV joints. I think I should have read them more carefully before I bought the car because in an obscure note on one of them said my wheels are slightly bent.. I'm going to need to get that checked out now (4 years later...). One bill for over $350 was for a faulty side curtain air bag.
Since I've owned the car I've replace all the disc brakes and pads (about $200 from a contact I made here on the forums), had to buy a couple tires (got them used from VYC Bestusedtires for less them half the price of new- with 9/32 of tread), replaced a wheel bearing 2 weeks ago ($66 for the bearing and $20 to press the old bearing off and new one on) and this week I just spent the most money so far- almost $800. I've got an order comming from ECS Tuning for a timing belt kit, some cooling hoses/clamps, DV, and a new clutch kit. Hopefully I will be able to do all the work myself saving big bucks... thats the key to owning an Audi. Save money and do the work yourself because the parts are way overpriced (If instead of 4 rings you only got one with a VW in the middle of it the same parts would cost half as much.)

It doesn't sound too bad. I ws reading user vehicle reports on MSN Motors and some of the people were saying that they were spending 3-5K on a semi-weekly basis. While others that owned the same car were saying the bigest repair that they made was a timing belt for about a grand. It just didn't sound right that a high end car would be falling apart at the seems for some and not others. I would asume that it comes down to ongoing preventive matinance and fixing things as they come and not letting them pile up to become something bigger.
I am now wondering what my next big thing repair will be on this car. I am leaning towards that transmission. The only thing that has been down to it is service required flushes. The turbo is being replaced now and will be done on Monday morning. The oil will be changed at that time. The timing belt was done with that Tie Rods and Control arms at 100,346. I have the recipts here now am can look at them for any part that has been replaced.
Anyone wanna bet on what the repair will be and how muvh it will cost?
