I have a guess, but what are these?
Just curious - in my 99 A4 2.8 with concert stereo, I have these two small grilles. The first one is at the back, top corner of the driver's door (on the B pillar, and there is one on each side of the car), and the second is on the driver's side A pillar. What I'm thinking is that these are speakers/mikes for an optional phone integration setup, similar to what some BMWs have. Is this correct? If so, what do I need to do to make use of this? Is there a jack on the back of the head unit that I'd need to plug into with a specific cable? Also, would this only work with some Audi-supplied phone system, or is it something that someone out there has adapted to work with a cell phone?
Thanks in advance...

I believe they both are part ofthe telephone system. A hands-free microphone is built into the left side A-pillar trim. I'm not sure about the B-pillar trim, i'll continue looking in thebentley manual. I use to have a 99.5 and the car phone hookup was in the armrest. I have not heard of anyone intergrating their cell phone, but that would be interesting.
Yeah I have been thinking about trying to hook up my cell phone to that. Thinking it might be possible by taking apart my handsfree set and connecting it to the wires to the jack under the arm rest. How does it work exacty though? When your phone is on does the music cut off and allow the phone conversation to play? Has anyone actaully used the car phone jack succesfully?
All good and valid ideas guys - thanks for theinput. Could well be that the forward one on the A pillar is a phone mike, and the one on the B pillar is an alarm senser as new2me suggested. I'll have to take a look through the servicemanual's electrical schematicswhen I get it and see if I can figure out a way to integrate my cell phone.
In my buddy's 01 325iC, the system works with his cell, and when the music is on and the phone rings, the music mutes and the phone answers itself. The in-car mikes are used for talking, and when his cell sees that the call is over by the other person hanging up, it hangs itself up and the music comes back up to volume. Pretty slick system, and one I'd love to duplicate in the A4.

in my 2000 A4 1.8t - motion sensor's for the alarm, do the test. first lock your car, but keep your window open and then try to stick your arm into the car, it will trigger your alarm. on second test tape over those sensors and u’ll see the diffirence.
i tried this on my car this summer. if didnt work try to clean ur sensors.
Your car speakers will be your phone speaker in some models (in A8 it will MUTE your cd player) and you have only one microphone, y do you need 4 of them on a side next to your ears ???

I know I have the phone jack in my center console, but was always under the impression that the motion sensor was in the center of the dashboard up toward the defrost vents (that little black thingy), maybe I'm wrong. I'm glad I found via AF the sensor shut-off though. I just wish I would have found it when my ex and I would leave her dog in the car, my alarm would always go off, but I couldn't close the door without setting it.
It sure would be nice to be able to use my phone handsfree... I maybe just need another Bluetooth phone, so I can use my Bluetooth headset... I hate this POS backup phone I'm using right now, but it'd be good for the in-car setup, and possibly having another for when I'm out of the vehicle (if thats even possible)
