Default I need advice on the 2004 A4? 1.8T or 3.0?

Hey guys: Im in the market for a used Audi either 2002 - 2004. I went to the dealer today and looked at the certified pre-owned cars which were really good looking. I test drove the 3.0 engine and i felt that it put out the same proformance as the 1.8T (i didn't race it of course). Im just wondering what engine would be better for me? I love accelerating fast and pure, i want handeling to be a gem, and i want a car that is good in the snow. The quattro audi seems to be the right car for me. I am going with the A4 for the price and looks. Im just wondering what engine size is for me? Thanks a lot!

Also in the future i do plan on maybe adding a high proformance exhaust and maybe intake mod. If i get the 3.0 engine would this be possible or not? Thanks again! -Matt-

welcome to the forums. I test drove a 1.8t and a 3.0 before acquiring my a4 3.0 and found that the 3.0 was indeed more powerful compared to the 1.8t. The only reason I got the 3.0 was because I wanted the a4 to be dolphin grey, 6 manual, and ultra sport package.....and the only one that I could find was THAT 3.0 they had on the lot. I searched dealership through dealership and no one had a 1.8t with all the above .

So I got into the 3.0 ..... The 1.8t has more tuning potential. Ill just have to get a supercharger from PES-tuning.com

And to answer your question, YES you can put a performance exhaust to the 3.0l.

they make sooo much more stuff for the 1.8T motor than the 3.0. so if you want to leave it stock yeah go with the 3.0.

Is the 3.0 much faster than the 1.8 (noticable) .. lets say a dork in an 1.8t wats to race.. could i beat him?

It depends on how much the dork has modified his engine.

Yes, a stock 3.0 will beat the 1.8.

But with some moderate upgrades, the 1.8t will be faster.

How does the 1.8T with minor mods compare to a stock 3.0?

From what ive herd is that there are much more aftermarket proformance products for the 1.8T than the 3.0L engine. Im going to get the 3.0 because of the wood trim inside and if i take the time to research what i can do to make it faster then the bigger engine will pull a little bit harder.

Bottom line is- u put 1000 into each cars then the 3.0 will pull harder.. just as much as if you drop 3-4000 in each the 3.0 will still pull a little bit harder.

You just have to find the right parts!
