Its better to be safe than sorry =)

 

First of all, if the tensioner goes (not likely the belt will go first), you are NOT going to frag your engine and nothin' is gonna fly in your eye. Pistons don't come flyin' out with a timing belt break. However, if that does happen, you're looking a new head and labor at the least--figure $3000 or more.

$400 for labor to do the belt is a good price, but you can do it yourself. It just takes time. And it is no way as hard as doing a transverse mount VW!

 

thats mostly right but in most cases its actually the tensioner that goes before the belt

 

get the belt done when i bought my 01 a4 the guy i bought it from said that the timming belt was done then come to find out it never was never trust the fomer owner unless u know them well
