Default Idea for using the RJ45 jack

I have a B5, with the RJ45 jack under the arm rest. I assume it has power running to it, and I was wondering if I could use it to power the cell phone charger I bought that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I have the charger already, and an RJ45 end and crimper, so I guess I just need to know if there is power, if it is the right voltage, and which pins to crimp the charger wires into.

Thank you for your helpful response. I have, in fact, heard of a multimeter. I just thought maybe I could save myself some time, as mine is currently 500 miles away.

Thanks again.

Test lights are always good for quick tests of 12 volts. I can only imaging using that jack for a cellphone charger. Then again, I'd probably forgetthe phonein the car everytime.

yeah I haven't really heard of anyone succesfully converting that into anything. I'm sure it can be done though. Since your phone charger is 12volt it should only have a power and a ground. Just ground it elsewhere and try touching the power to each of the terminals on the RJ45...

Sorry, I dont know how it would be wired up in the car already, I would just use a multimeter or test lite to find out.

Sorry if my response seemed sarcastic, you'd be surprised that some people here may not know what that is.

What's the "official" purpose of that jack, anyway?
