I'm so frustrated...what car should I get?
Yuikio, I do not really appreciate the flame for a car that is far superior to yours. You had a standard 150 horse power engine at best, with probably over 70,000 miles on it. Please stop talking crap because you do not know my intentions. I do plan to add a supercharger down the road...but it is the Certified Pre-Owned version with the warranty to 100k...so I have 45,000 miles or two years. Do not flame someone with a $14k car when you have an $8k car. I have different motives for the perfect car, and in my criteria, I found it. So please, stfu, and go to hell. Thanks!
Oooh, damn. Sorry, Daddy Warbucks 14K.You sure put me in my place with your crushing hypothetical mileage comparisons and made-up price comparos. I was under the impression you wanted a car that was fast, and not an A4, since you said that explicitly in your post. I was trying to help you out with recommendations that seemed to fit your given criteria. Not many people would seriously consider a 2.8 A4 fast or quick. Decent, but not fast by any measurement.
Give me a fvckin break. Far superior in what way? That you paid more for it? That's the kind of logic no one can argue with.
I can guarantee you that my car will out-grip and out-accelerate your car, and all the mods I have done plus the purchase price are still less than 14K.
You have no idea what my intentions are with my car. Even less so than I do yours, since you asked a question that laid out your requirements. My criteria for my car were these: AWD, manual, under 10 Gs (didn't quite make it) highly modifiable, a car I could work on, and a car that wasn't embarassingly slow. I'm not even saying yours is slow in absolute terms; it would probably give my 4Runner a run, and take most minvans on the market, but compared to a WRX, a TT 225, or another car you mentioned, it is the fat kid that those cars make fun of.
So, instead of getting all butt-hurt defensive about your car (a 2.8 owner rite of passage, obviously) and whining about reliability and "superiority," realize that, just like you said to me, not everyone has the same objectives when purchasing an A4. Obviously, paying more for a slow car is what you were after. If you think you found a "fast" car in the same league as an X-Type or a WRX, I'm happy for you.

Yeah, I admit I was too harsh on the 2.8. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. In many ways, it's better than the 1.8t. But quickness is not at the top of its repertoire. And "relatively fast" isn't really either.
