Are the fogs brighter than the brakes? I thought they were, but maybe it is because I came up on a guy in a benz (on a very dark road) running his rear fog and he nearly blinded me with it in comparison to just the tail lights. I think they are brighter than the brakes too if I remember right though. Anyway, it upset me that he could be so inconsiderate, so I passed him and turned on my rearfog to help him understand what he was doing... I don't think he got it. I don't think he knew his fog light was on.
They are the same bulb as the brake light.

You can get ticketed for dual rear fogs. It's a stupid mod and serves no purpose other than to do the "phantom brake check" on people that drive up your tail. Funny to see them hit the brakes when you do that, but driving with them on all the time like some people do is just dumb.

And thats besides the fact that it eliminates the directional functionality of your rear foglight
I guess being safe in fog or rain with heavy roadspray is dumb. Hmmm, maybe all the A6 owners should disable their right-hand fog.

Drivers in the US think you have a burned out tail light. They don't think that it's a rear fog. However, with both lit, at least they back off when riding your tail (most of the time). I agree that you shouldn't ride around all the time with them on. Only in bad weather or when some twit is trying to sniff your butt.

but has anyone done the dual rear fogs on the B5? i tried looking into it I know there is plastic in the housing that needs to be removed what about the harness is there wiring for the bulb or no it didn't look like it to me but i may be missing something....

let me know what you think
Here are some instructions on how to add the passenger side fog. We are luck that the B5 is already wired and there is no rewiring required.

(1st Picture) Fold back the inside cover and disconnect the wiring connector. Remove the bulb housing/bracket by unclipping it from the far side of the bracket (nearest the outside of the car). Remove four 8mm nuts to remove the rear lense (careful not to drop any).

(2nd Picture) This is what the bulb housing looks like. Notice the top socket is empty. That is where the P21/5W bulb for the fog light will go.

(3rd Picture) This is what the back of the lense looks like. Notice the top hole has parts on the top and bottom to keep a bulb from fitting in.

(4th Picture) Use a Dremel tool or round file to remove the obstructions. This is what it looks like afterwards.

From here, replace the lense in the car and add the bulb to the top socket. Place the bulb housing back into the lense and reconnect the connector. Test and make sure everything works.

It depends on the year of your car and the age of your laptop (or expense). Most new consumer laptops only have USB ports, while some professional grades still have a serial port. Older laptops (4+ years old) almost always had both. If you have a B5, you won't need the CAN bus.

VAG-COM License with KEY-COM Interface is probably what you need. You could always call Ross Tech and ask.

Yes, I've done a search.

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec43.shtml (here is the link I used, or tried to use)

Does anyone have manual instructions for doing this? I took a look at the fuse box modification, but it didn't worrk for me. My fuses were not in the same location. I have an 03 A4.

My manaul showed the fuses I'd be using in different locations. Hell, in spot 19 where the manual said the fog light fuse was, there was no fuse and it wasn't even hot (unusable).

Anyone got ideas. I can't VAG-COM it.

Thanks!
