Default installed vvme HID...stereo went to safe mode

Hi...new to Audis...I got a 98 b5 avant...installed a one piece depo headlights...that went well..a few days later, got my vvme HID kit...install was pretty straigh forward..but the factory stereo went dead as soon as I turned on the headlights..I thought maybe it was a fuse. I pulled the fuse out...it seems ok and now the HU went to safe mode...i bought the car used and did not come with the code, I know I have to bring it to the dealer to pull the code and maybe the head unit itself since I dont have the tool for it. Is there a fuse in the HU itself ?....how do I remedy this ?...plus everytime I turn on my lights, I think the high beams flashes momentarily then switches to low beam ...wiring maybe ?

thanks in advance for the help...

Rob

for the high beam. did u pull or push the stalk? u have to push and hear a click. as for the radio, u need to get the code from the dealer. this is for the techs, can u get the code with a vagcom?

Don't hid's flicker a little when they start up because the gas has to ignite? Inorder to get hid's lit it takes a lot more energy compared to normal running, for a split second when they light there is more energy then needed and they get brighter then it's normal. I bet thats why you think the highbeams go on. I know there is a fuse on the back of the head unit and one in the fuse panel. If you pull the one in the fuse panel does that kill the power to the radio since the circuit has been broken? If so then thats why it's in safe mode.

well...i figured that out already...the question is if I change the fuse on the HU, it might blow again when everytime i turn on the headlights ?....is there a permanent fix to this ?

The only way to find out is to get the code and see what happens.
Ive read before that the radio code is sometimes on a sticker in the trunk. But Im not sure if thats true for everyone.

Is there a way to get the HU to show it's code before power is interrupted to it? I don't have the radio codes for any of my cars and would feel better if I did just in case.

Not that I've ever heard of or read about on here. If nothing else, if you go to a dealership, show them your installed head unit and the registration for the car it came out of (proving you own the car and the headunit), they can get the code for you.
