Default Installing Auto-Dimming and Compass Mirror

Does anyone know if it is possible to switch my non-dimming rearview mirror with one that has the compass and auto-dimming feature? I just bought a 2003 A4 Avant without that feature and I really wish I had it.

Thanks!

I am also looking to switch out my mirror to the autodimming/compass one.Do you have to go to the dealer to order this, or can you find them any other place?

So far, I have found a company called Gentex who manufactures auto-dimming mirrors with compasses. I do not know if they look as factory OEM as the original ones. I would like to know, however, the difficulty in wiring the new unit.

This is easily done in most cases. I install these mirrors all the time. Shouldn't require much additional wiring. Google Mito-Corp. They sell various things such as auto dimming mirrors, seat heater, etc.

I did it with my previous 98 A4. It was easy. I just ran power from the fusebox up the A Pillar and to the mirror - you could also tap into the sunroof power if you wanted. I have some pics I made of what each of the wires do. I will look for them.

EDIT:

here ya go - I bought a 2001 A4 mirror from a guy and installed it rather easily. You will have to hook up the gray "reverse inhibitor" wire to the tail reverse light signal if you want the mirror to undim when you are in reverse. It was not that hard. I used a needle and a meter to find which wire in the trunk had a signal when I was in reverse, then hooked to that. This mirror does not have a compass.
