Default instrument cluster

Since I've owned the car my gas gauge hasn't worked, and recently my coolant gauge stopped working.. I've tested bother sensors and they both test fine.. unfortunately

That means its my instrument cluster.. ..

Does anyone know if its the computer goes out or is it the gauge itself.. If its just the gauge could I simply buy a cluster and swap out the gauges? Or is it the cluster as a whole..

I've pulled my cluster apart and it seems like there isn't any logic done by the gauge.. It just looks like its basically a stepper motor..

That still doesn't really answer my question though..

Mine is the same, my coolant gauge doesnt work, an audi specialist scanned the car with their software and it has a fault on the instrument cluster.

There are companies who will refurbish the cluster but its quite expensive and you cant drive the car with the cluster out as the immobilizer is in there.

Be interesting to see if you could just swap the gauge and that it worked.

That's just it, IDK if its the actual stepper motor or if its the circuit board not giving it the correct pulses.. I went to a junk yard and the steppers in every vw I found are much different then mine.. I can get brand new steppers but I don't know the voltage and they're about $30ea.. The steppers in gm consoles look similar but IDK if its the same steps per revolution.. I might get one and try it anyway..
