Default Instrument Cluster?

I just bought a 2002 a4. THe lcd on the instrument cluster doesnt work. I bought an instrument cluster from a salvage yard and swapped them out. THe lcd says SAFE MODE, and when i start my car it automatically dies. Does anyone know how i can fix this or do i just need to put the old insturment cluster in and live without the lcd screen display. I havent taken it to the dealership yet but iam sure they will want an arm and a leg. Thanks in advance.

I heard you have to take it to the dealer so they can reprogram your car...I wanted to replace the instrument cluster in my 01 A4....the dealer wanted $900. So I opted to just keep it turned off (the computer with the messed up LCD lights)....

That is just crazy. Will the dealer program the cluster that i bought or will they make me buy a new one from them? Is there any other solutions? Thanks

They can program the cluster to your keys and car. Depends on the dealer and your attitude
