Default Intake/downpipe

Friend of mine told me thqt increasing the diameter on the intake and adding a downpipe makes a huge difference on the 1.8T...is this true? He mentioned that it made a significant difference on a chipped car. Any suggestions? I think I read somewhere that an intake doesn't do too well on the 1.8T.

Haven't tuned an Audi, but generally whatever you can do to make the flow of air less restrictive will make a difference, especially if you are running a higher-than-stock boost level. There gets a point where the stock intake and exhaust become inefficient due to their size/design/etc., in which case it becomes wise to invest in an intake, pipes with larger diameter bends, etc.

Popular opinion is that a CAI will have negative effects on the 1.8T. I personally have had no experience with it...

Can anyone give me solid experience on this? Is there somthing that increases pipe diameter at the turbo inlet
but retains the stock size near the air box? Any downpipe experience with a chip? The reason im asking is because i notice the cat is right after the turbo...Im assuming that larger piping after the cat will help but is it that significant power-wise and spool up time?

if you retain stock size at the box... and just open up the turbo inlet a bit you're still going to be taking in the same amount of air... think about it.

the downpipe on a chipped car wll make a difference, as for the intake alot of people just use a kn filter in there stock box cause it is a cold air as where the evo intake(i have) is not a cold air intake but it makes really nice sound
