yes .... the mechanic just "cleared the codes" i watched him press clear when the code came up ... he didnt do anything to the engine ... just the computer .... and it made the engine light go out ... it has brand new spark plugs ... so is the ignitor and fuel injector the only other thing that could cause the piston to miss fire ? ... and how hard would that be to fix if i wanted to do it by myself ? will the light turn off once it is fixed or will i have to get a vag-com to do that

Sorry to break it to ya, but you paid a bit much for a car with its age and miles. (got my 96 w/109k mi for 4800) You should've (or should) made them fix everything for you before you bought it.
I had a cyl4 misfire before also, here's what i did that fixed it:
plugs - spend the money... get the ones with 4 prongs... makes a difference
fed cylinders with seafoam through vac line
seafoamed gas tank
seafoamed oil...

good idea to change your plugs after seafoaming since feeding it into the cylinders tends to foul up the plugs...
hope it helps, good luck with your new baby

Not to be rude but who said to"just clear the codes" ?
ORIGINAL: clconversion

most of the time just clearing the codes is just a tempereary fix the problem is still there get the codes scanned and get the problem fixed
