This intake worth the money?
yeah, just get that k&n one or the b&b. With that k&n one, get any kinda heat sheild material, totally block off the bottom of the filter, i mean the whole thing, and up sides if you want. Anything to keep that engine heat away and that fresh cold air coming in. Oh, and there s vent you can cut out right beside the stock one that wil let air in. Keep that in mind.
should i get a heat shield that goes all the way around it like the one here or get one that is just a side part like this one? Also the one that goes all the way around wouldn't it let less air into the engine, b/c it can only enter tgru the top of the air filter? And how do u do the vents?
I would just get the one that goes half around it, but then i would take any type of material that is heat resistant, just use sheet aluminum. And bend it so u totally go underneath it and up the sides, just so no engine heat can get to it. Your on the right track tho, u need heat shields or you will have heat soak. Dont listen to the people who say it will give ya 2hp, they obvisouly dont know what they are talking about. I hope it all works out for ya.
Ok, look at the pic of the k&n one on ebay. I would start one(aluminum sheeting) about where that 5v is on the engine and run it down and underneath and just come up the other side a lil. All your trying to do is keep all the engine heat away from it, so anywhere heat can get in try and block it off.
CAI giving you 10-12 hp on a 1.8t A4 is bull. First off they aren't CAI there is nothing cold about it, they extract more heat since the turbo is 12" away and the filter is now a open air filiment. People have dynoed on AW and have seen a loss of HP. This doesn't really regard to you since you have a 2.8 but really the stock airbox is good on the A4's. It is pulling fresh air through a duct right into the airbox. Although i have a CAI i cut the duct so it fits over top of the filter while still directing air right at the filter. Ough and i have the evo "HAI".
I would just buy the cheapest one on ebay they all do the same thing and also look the same and they sale that half sheild at auto zone for like under 10bucks or just do your own custom heat sheild
Forget the cold air intake. If you are looking for real horsepower gains check out the link. With a simple 30 dollar filter change they claim 10-20% increase in power.
