Default Intermittant Check Engine Light

I need some help. I have a 1999 Audi A4 2.6, 5 speed with 85,000 miles. I've been unable to get the check engine light fixed despite nearly $700 in repairs. The car has an aftermarket Sony radio.

1/19 - Repair shop pulls code P0411/16795, replaces bad vacuum lines. CEL light is off after repair

6/21 - Repair shop pulls code for vacuum leak, replaces vacuum lines. CEL light is off again.

3/6 - Audi dealer replaces faulty speed sensor ($400) CEL light comes back on 1 week later. Dealer say radio must be pulled to diagnose.

I do nothing for several months. CEL light goes off and then comes back on.

1/27 - Repair shop pulls code 16885. CEL light is off for a couple of months during the cold weather.

CEL light is back on.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I need to smog check the car soon and can't do it unless the CEL is off.

Thanks.

if it’s on and off, go to AutoZone or any other local auto store and get VAG-COM, clear cel right before you do smog check, and return VAG-COM back to the store …

u mean 2.8 instead of 2.6 engine

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, 2.8.

Even easier, before you go to the test, pull the neg battery cable off for a minute or two.

Then hook it back up, and go and pass your test.
