Just bought 2004 A4 quattro 1.8t avant
I just bought a 2004 A4 quattro 1.8t avant from a private owner. It is a cali car, and it's immaculate. It has 28,000 highway miles. I got it for 25,750. Does this sound like a good deal? It has all the features (sport package, carbon fiber trim, zenon lights, manual trans, home link, bose stereo, leather interior, etc.). It has the Audi Advantage warranty, is this a good one?
I've heard all about these chips people put into the A4's. How easy are they to install, and what are some of the most common problems they can cause. I'm assuming it's not worth putting it in while the car is on warranty.
I am an audi enthusiast, but I am new to the A4 world. I have been driving an 87 4000cs quattro for the past 7 years. It was time for a change even though I loved that car.
I look forward to hearing any of your opinions. My biggest concern with my new purchase is the depreciation I will incurr on the car. I see the 2001 models selling for about 11,000. I can't afford that kind of depreciation so I'm a little concerned.

hey, cudos on your purchase. yeah, that sounds a bit high, especially seeing as that's now the old gen, but it's not too bad. sounds like you have a great car!
the chips are pretty much plug and play... once you get your ECU back from the company (all depends on who you deal with) The most popular being GIAC and APR (Revo's around, but I don't trust it... so I'm not gonna suggest it) There ARE others such as MTM. JHM and Neuspeed, but you're mainly going to hear about GIAC and APR. This is a worthwhile read if you have time, if not the basic rule is:
GIAC = squeeze all the performance you can, sacrificing ride quality
APR = smoother ride than GIAC, more powerful than stock
APR also has a much better rated customer service, but others will chime in tomorrow with their debates.
yeah, there will be a big depreciation, ontop of the massive depreciation audis already have. if you weren't aware, the 2006 A4 has been released. new engine (2.0T with FSI) new styling.. just... completly new. so that is going to have a huge effect on the resale of your car.

you running auto or manual tranny?

couldn't tell you whether or not you got a good deal, that's way outta my price range.
the chip has to be installed by a shop (most shops will install it for free if you buy the chip from them i believe). the chips are pretty amazing...not many issues with them at all from what i've seen. they just unlock the potential of your car that's already there. i don't even think they decrease gas mileage..

some people go negative... i've heard most to positive. yeah, one of the first things i get for whatever car i get will be a chip. for the ranger, the diablo chip i'd buy GUARANTEES better gas mileage.
