Default Just got my 2001 audi a4 5 spd 1.8TQ. Any advice?

Im about as new as it gets, but im reading and learning everyday.
So far ive learned that
-intakes are worthless cause they draw in hot air. (But they make a kool sound that i desire=) )
- My neuspeed exhaust that the previouse owner put on doesnt have headers, wich my friend said would make the exhaust actualy give the 15 hp it says it would, but without headers and just a cat back i only gain 4 HP. It doesnt sound loud, not that i want it to bge a ricer, but it could be louder.
- KO4 Turbos are really expensive (heard they damage engine, dont know?)
- intercoolers are expensive
- Chips seem to be the way to go
- Mos def getting a BOV. =P jk
- If anyone has advice on what to mod first for the most performance and HP gains without killing the life of my engine let me know

- I have a $2K budget as of this month to tweak my engine, so im looking for some decent HP gains!!

Thanks guys, ill have a pic of my car soon, just registered 5 min ago, looking forward to exchanging info more often.!

ko4's is the cheapest and most reliable bigger turbo you can get.

Chip, exaust, suspension.

then K04 and supporting mods.

Okay. Chips are a must at first

headers, you wont get unless you get a complete turbo upgrade (normally comes in a package, like what APR hads)

with 2k, you could most defanitly geta a k04 turbo and a GIAC chip......

http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/p...rain&IL=AWEK04

for 1.8k, you get a GIAC chip, new sparks, a k04 turbo, and gaskets. you can also spend 2k and get the pc16 or whatever upgrade (better chip and bigger fuel injectors)

if i had 2k...i would do that in HEARTBEAT

also, a k04 wont really do damage to your engine. it doesnt give you much mroe boost than a k03 chipped, its jsut that the boost holds until a higher RPM

i would defanitly suggest the link above. it would make you grin from ear to ear.

is my neuspeed exhaust going to cut it or should i get a new aftermarket exhaust. my friend said something about not having headers, wich i need for a real HP gain.

Yeah i was checking that out earlier. as long as the price is worth it, and i get the most HP/performance for my money that sounds like a good idea.

i have a neuspeed exhaust with down pipe on 01 a4 and it is fine i don't have a k04 yet. i would get giac chip first then go from there and make sure things are up to par like timing belt, tie rods, wheel bearings, before you go all out because it would really suck getting a new turbo and a bunch of other stuff and have the timing belt blow out

My problem is that im not a total noob with cars but i still know a limited amount. I got the car already with an aftermarket exhaust. My friend says it only is adding like 4 HP though. I dont want to go a spend money on getting a whole new exhaust if i have to. He says i should though. Can i add headers to my exhaust or do i need that full kit showed above at

http://awe-tuning.com/pages/shared/p...rain&IL=AWEK04

Either way i do need to get it serviced, its got 95K on it so im gonna do the timming belts and all that 100K service at 96K on my next oil change. If you guys got any other reccomendations just let me know. Thanks.

First, get your t-belt done.

Then, get a chip, and a better DV.

You already have an exhaust, dont worry about headers until you upgrade to a bigger turbo.

Put a drop in K&N in the airbox, it flows a little better, and lasts forever, just don't over oil it.

With the rest, I would look at a suspension upgrade. Get coilovers all around, unless you are already running a sport suspension. The handling will be vastly improved and will be money well spent.

I would wait for a turbo upgrade until you have 3-5k to put into it. If you want real power, you'll also need to upgrade the clutch (700-1500), do an intercooler (700-1000), as well as the manifold, downpipe, etc.

So, I would wait for a big turbo until you are ready to do it all the way. The things I mentioned should eat up your 2k easy, and you will have a much better all aorund vehicle.

Welcome to the forum. How about some pictures of your ride?
