k&n Filter + plugs
One of my friends told me that he put in a k&n filter and new plugs(performance i guesss) and he saw an improvment. His car is a 99.5 2.8Q manual. I have the same car, do you think its worth to spend this money for and gains.
I've heard really mixed reviews about using a K&N filter...there just doesn't seem to be a consensus on the forum. But if it has been a while since your plugs have been replaced, it's not a bad idea to swap them out.
I wouldnt do a K&N, the filter has larger holes in the material and allows more micro sized particles in your engine. also the gains are more in your head then anything. If he replaced it without telling you he did it, you would never notice anything, except the compression dropping 1psi every 10K for the terrible job its doign filtering the particles out of the intake charge.
Do a real intake mod, and use the standard paper filters, you will be better off.

I replaced my filter with a K&N and some cooler burning NGK copper plugs recently. I get about 1 mpg better on average, I dont see how there could be much of a gain until you start upgrading other parts like a chip or turbo upgrade. Certainly nothing to feel except at the pump.
I replaced mine with a k&n and saw mpg gains that made it worth it. I went from 18.9 to 20.7 and that was not in my head. As long as you keep the filters oiled there are no worries which remindes me that I need to do that tommorow.
change your plugs w every oil change...and make a heatshield before you install a cone filter...although I have a k&n cone filter, you will be able to get away is an "el cheapo" eBay kit...
besides that, you will not feel any improvement, but you will definately hear an improvement...
