k&n intake for an A4
I was hoping that someone could tell me if this new K&N intake was a good intake for my A4.it is supposed to be shipping out soon, but i didnt know if it was gonna give my the gains you would expect from a K&N. it is only $130 so i decided to try it out but if anybody says that it is not worth it then i will cancel it.
if you are going for the k&n hot air intake you should definately look into making yourself a heatshield, I am waiting on some nitrile vinyl closed cell foam rubber to make a heatshiled so that I can run a cone filter without soak issues, gl!
find the gasket maker closest to you http://www.thomasnet.com/products/ga...5935870-1.html
everyone on that list carries the material, but at the same time I am just using this because it's used for aircraft firewalls and bulkheads (not to mention that it will not absorb water, oil, petrol, etc.), plus I really dont like the idea of having furnace insulation in my engine bay...
any one of the manufacturers on the link should be able to cut you a piece from a roll, I'm guessing the cost will be roughly 30$ with shipping, this was actually my friends josh's idea, he works on planes in florida....
the easy way out is to go with the fiber insulation, which will probably work just as well (home depot for 10$)
either way you go, I would definately get this out of the way before it warms up....gl!

alright! hey thanks alot. cuz when you metioned that it will be hot i started thinking about it, it sits by the hottest part of the engine. now iknow nottoinstall it till i get some kind of heat shield.
one thing, I'd honestly say that you would be pretty safe to install your intake, I have a set up that's the same general setup as yours, and I still havn't gotten the nitrile foam, so I just have my stock heat shield zip tied up, until I get the material, with the stock "snorkel" my cone hasn't been getting hot, mainly because it's freezing where I am, I would say if your average temp is under 70 deg. you are pretty safe to install your intake...I actually put a 710N dv in the day before i did my intake and I have a nice audible pshh and a tiny bit o throat from the exhaust side...gl!
