hey tommygn , im in the exact same perdicament as you. I also only have the option of replacing my ko3 with another ko3 and I have to do it myself too . My money is no where near a ko4 =(

My plans are...... - get all necessary tools
- get the ko4 install kit for like 40 bucks that includes gaskets and all that other Bullsh!t but not including the ko4
- get a used ko3 from someone through vwvortex or thru here. will buy one within a few weeks
- get the bentley maintenance book and do the turbo replace step by step.
- i only know how to do oil changes, diverter valvle installs and spark plug installs so im going to take my time and make sure I do it right. From what I hear , with good directions and the right tools , you should be alright.

keep us posted.

PS: where do you live?

hey zat0rsk1, sorry to hear that, im livin in mexico city mostly for now and in tx some of the time, which only makes things harder, the dealer here qouted me 3000 us for a new k03, wtf!!!
so, i should take ur advise and get a bentley, and get started, first, i havent even checked the turbo, my car started smoking oil, real bad, only above 3krpm, checked compresion, head, all good, now im 99% sure its the turbo leaking oil, got oil in the admision, and it doesnt sound good, not dentist drill yet, but it def is not what it should.
i was offered a k03s from a friend from an 03 b6, for cheap, very cheap, so im just gonna get it and swap it as soon as i get my bentley, besides, even thou my car is an 01, it came with a 150hp engine, with the regular k03, so putting in a k03s should getme some more hp, right? ill keep posted.

You really dont need a bently manual to take out the turbo. Its not as hard as it sounds. The DIY articles from audiworld are more explanatory than bently, trust me i have a bently manual.
