From what i've heard with the GIAC pc-16 you will also have to replace your clutch.

 

Well I will definately not be buying all parts in high-end quality, however i dont want a garbage set-up.

This is a project more or less, but i have about a thousand to get started. . .

I get paid every 2 weeks and all bills are currently paid so its FUN TIME

it all depends on what you want long term..you can buy all that you need for +1..but then a few months later you decide to go BT..you kinda wasted money..then you are gonna need another set of injectors..another clutch..etc..

 

Err..it's tough to get quality partson atightbudget. I suggest buying chip and deal with the problems later. Problems will come and then it will be time to upgrade those problem parts.

 

The clutch is like any other part of the car - you abuse it and you will eventually have to replace it.

Take some time and figure out how far you willing to take this project. are you willing to put $4-5k into it for a BT setup? What kind of performance do you want? the 1.8t can be tuned to 400-500hp with the correct setup. but then you better have deep pockets

I cqalled gpop when i was looking into a K04. they are very happy to explain everythign if you give them a call. but basicly the deal is that they machine out the K03 housings to be the size of a K04 and replace the internals, the ONLY diffrence between a real K04 and a Gpop K04 is that the exhaust turbine is 5mm smaller (the orignal K03 size) on the Gpop bucause they can't machine this side out propperly, that is what i was told by Gpop themselfs. so to answer the orignal question, yes a Gpop is more restrictive, and i would imagine 5mm on a turbine would make a decient diffrence.

 

You have 2000 A4 with ATW engine code, right?
If so, you will want the GIAC J-31 file (it's the most agressive of the k04 files for the B5 and it only works for the 2000 A4). I don't think GIAC sells that file anymore (it's no tlisted on their website anymore) but if you ask around you may be able to find someone or some tuner still selling it. If you can find the j-31 file, you are going to need injectors(Siemens Deka injectors or Genesis injectors. This is important becasue of the dual cone spray pattern needed for our engines), tt 225 maf sensor & housing, a FMIC, 2.5" cat-back exhaust (the piping measures 2.75" outside diameter thus the confusion), and of course a k04-15. I believe that is all the components you'll need. Total cost is about $2300-$2850 depending on where you get parts and whether or not you already have a GIAC chip.

If you can't find the J-31 file, your stuck with the regular old 5 bar k04 file (or get a custom chip). For that you will need a 5bar fuel pressure regulator, a 2.5" cat-back exhaust, and the turbo. The 5 bar k04 file makes the car feel like you think an A4 should feel straight from the factory. Not a huge hp difference over a chipped k03 but enough extra torque to make up for the hp low increase over a chipped k03. Total cost is about $1500-$2000 depending on where you get parts depending on where you get parts and whether or not you already have a GIAC chip.


Cheapest place I have seen a brand new k04 is at Supreme Power Parts. $675. I'm sure soembody knows of some place cheaper.

Lastly, APR does not currently sell a k04 file for the B5 model A4.
