key programming??
Just registered to this forum today, looks like a very interesting and helpful site.

I have a 2001 A4 1.8t and recently lost my only remote switchblade key. I am currently using my valet key for the time being. I do have a remote key from my previous 1999 A4 model.

My question is....

If I havea new key made, can I swap that new key with the key from my old remote and reprogramthat remote system to work in my new car??? Does that make sense??

If it is possible, what stepsdo I follow in reprogramming the 1999 remote to workwithmy newer car.

Thanks a lot.

you may have trouble getting the dealer to just replace the key. You'll probably have to replace the entire upper portion of the remote and have them cut the key. Look for it to be at least 80 bucks. Here are instructions for programming a key FOB

key programming??
Thanks for the info, going to wait a few weeks to see if the missing key turns up before I purchase the new key.

Want to make sure I understand you correctly...

I am going to start off with the new remote key and my valet key.

Can I use either key (valet or new remote key) in the ignition??

I assume I would use the valet key in the ignition and use the remote key to lock and unlock the door, correct??

Thanks again
