Here's the problem with 2001 cars. If you go with the K04 and want K04 software, you need to get the GIAC Hammer file (or maybe go with APR--I wouldn't recommend Revo on this car). The Hammer file requires bigger injectors (TT225) ($240), a TT225 MAF (~$110), FMIC (~$850), and a free-flowing exhaust. So, on top of $700 for a K04 and chip upgrade ($150), you're way more than $1000! But...there ain't no alternative for the K03 other than to replace it. I was boosting 20+ psi on my GTI with the K03s, but that was with Revo and outside the efficiency range of the turbo (meaning I wasn't seeing that much more power).

The K04 is a nice, reliable, easy to install upgrade and should work wonders on a FWD car. It's doing great on my quattro.

ya but if i upgraded the turbo i would want to upgrade those parts as well so ur not shelling out too much money. no where near any of the other BT prices. i'd say get the k04 cuz the k03 might still leave you wanting more power. and i think giac gives discounts when you upgrade the chip for the second time to readjust for the k04
