would a ko4 be an effective upgrade for an automatic 1.8t?

K04 is a great bolt on upgrade.

However, you will need to get upgraded programming for the K04 to get any increase in power.

Additionally on the tiptronic you should probably get an additional tipchip for the transmission.

Additionally you will need an upgraded diverter valve, and a higher pressure fuel regulator so you don't run lean at high rpm. A low restriction exhaust is also suggested.
