List all possible problems/Inherent problems of a 97' A4 1.8T B5
Is it true that:
1. Front arms are the achilles heels of A4 B5s ? How do i check them?
2. Timing Belts, Rollers, Tensioners needs a complete change? How do i check them?
3. Tie End Rods are also prone to failures? Do i need to change them? How do i check them?
What else problems were there?
i. Is the Turbo reliable? Again, how do i check them?
Lastly, please provide some tips and tricks to help me maintain my A4 1.8T.
Thanks guys.

lot of questions there mate and very time consuming to answer them so do a net search, so as a mechanics view I would say they are not "prone" to anything if driven right and services are observed even the turbo is good, the trick to a long life motor regardless of make is maintenance with good quality parts and oils

first jack up the front of the vehicle and take off the front wheels. here the upper control arms and tie rod ends can be visually checked. just look for tears in the boots. also if the car kerplunks when pulling in to driveways thats a sign they are gone aswell. there is no way to check the timing belt. its just a roll of the dice. i reccomend changing it! (dont forget the waterpump rollers and all the other goodies. www.ecstuning sells a good kit they call the ultimate timing belt kit. it comes with everything. yes the turbo is relyable just if you drive hard allow it to cool off before shutting off your car. just make sure you change the oil with synthetic. and use all the appropriate fluids elsewhere.
