Being a newbie, I have looked through the "Newbie's Guide for the Audi A4."

Based on what I have read and seen for sale in my searching, I am looking for a 96-00 A4 but preferably a 98+. I do not plan on modifying the car for any serious power and I need it to be as reliable as can be (for an Audi). For these reasons, I have decided to stick to the 2.8 models. I would be alright with a 96-97 12v if I have trouble finding the ideal car but I plan to be patient and wait for a 98 with the 30v.

I understand that the timing belt and tensioner are important items when looking at used examples of these cars. I am trying to find cars that have already had this done. If so, is there anything else I should be concerned about on high mileage cars?

make sure it has maint records.. and dont jump on the first one you find, sit back and wait and you will find a great deal
